Mavis’s Diary

I have had to revised the information on this Diary because in our ignorance we wrongly stated Mavis had asbestosis,which was what we were led to suspect from initial tests. But she has Mesothelioma. Which is a Terminal condition,Unlike asbestosis.

Well today we are feeling a lot better.
Its no good crying over spilt milk. What will be will be.
Mavis is a lot brighter , its a shock ,but she is planning rallies and trips away, still fighting fit. All power to her elbow .

I cant come to terms with it today as the word Terminal has been used.
It has knocked me a bit. They are taking the drain out in 2 weeks and zapping the wound with Radium and then doing a double dose course of Chemo with both Tablets and drip . So they are really going to hit me with an experimental course of both.
They said that usually the women they treat with it have been very poorly and I’m so fit so I’m an unknown Quantity.
I have had to talk to my 2 brothers and my Son and I hate causing them so much pain as they are so heartbroken and poor Ray I think he needs to talk to someone as he is being so brave and I know he is devastated.
I cant bring myself to put this on the forum but Ray said he will. It is a very evil cancer as it seeds itself it is the worse one to have. I have now to contact a solicitor today to make a claim and the McMillian nurse said it will get through within 3 months so I will be able to treat my family to some extras.

On a different note today. When you leave the consultant they give you a pack and booklets for claiming compensation. Its all pretty straight forward. You have mesothelioma you are entitled. yea right . Remember the add pick it up its yours. fine untill you reach out for it. then Wow its not yours. Well this is a bit like that. You cant claim for almost anything unless you are already claiming for something if your not then go away its not yours. Even the solicitor is not sure we have a claim because it happened before 1965, thats when the law changed. So its all another sort of wait and see game.

We attended the consultants clinic today. The day we have not been looking forward to. the day we get the NEWS and Results. She said I am sorry but the final results comfirm our suspicions. You have Mesothelioma.
It was nothing less than we expected. She will now wish to see us in 3 weeks time to hopefuly remove the drain tube. When thats removed we can then start next course of treatment. She said the xray today is very good , things are working as hoped for. Which was a cesation of leakage of fluid . Its not dry yet but its better than it was. She is passing us on to a local cancer specialist who will take over her treatment. We have been appointed our cancer team for contacts.
Before starting chemo we have to have a series of radiation treatment to ensure no contaminants heve moved into the wound. because mesotheliom seeds itself into fresh wounds and uses it as a pathway to spread to other organs. When they are happy .Then we can start the next course which will be chemo. so in about a months time we get Zapped then we get poisoned. All in a days work they say. We have walked louis round and she feels a bit tired but otherwise OK. Ive been yelling at her to slow down ,but she was told if you feel you can and you want to then go for it.
