Wednesday, 18th March
A bit more progress. The roof is now fully battened, ready for tiling (tiles were due to arrive this afternoon). The tri-iso super 10 insulation .: LINK :. will need to be installed on the inside of the roof beams, and then we can get the upstairs rooms boarded out and plastered. John the sparky did some 1st & 2nd fixing, and we finalised positions for light switches and mains outlets.

The rear view is looking particularly impressive, with the rear face fully clad, and facias and soffits fitted.

Real progress today. The roof has now been completely felted and battened, which means we’re now waterproof. The next stage is the hi-tech insulation layer, and then tiles.

The rear dormer is now being waterproofed on the sides (cheeks), and then covered with white UPVC cladding. We can now begin to see how it will look when it’s all finished.

More severe weather yesterday afternoon (high winds, rain and hail), and more water coming through gaps in the sheeting on the roof, and through into the downstairs living area. Bedroom, hallway, bathroom got wet, and at one stage, we had at least half a dozen buckets and other receptacles in the loft catching the water pouring in. Luckily, the rain lasted a fairly short time, and no furniture or electrical appliances got wet. We hope it gets properly waterproofed soon.
Anyway, today the construction of the rear dormer roof continues, and the old roof timbers are being cut away, which means the roof is being totally supported on new beams and roof supports.

BEGINNING THE REAR DORMER EXTENSION

They’ve started removing the tiles for the rear (south-facing) roof, as can be seen from the photo.
Over the next few days, they should be building the rear dormer extension, which will form most of the bedroom. The only problem is that the weather forecast is not looking good for the next few days.
UPDATE (10:30pm) – the wind is howling, and the temporary cover over the rear of the roof is making a helluva noise, and the wind whips it about. I just hope the battens hold overnight. The forecast is for the wind to gradually die down after around 2am.
