Coming soon – Polly’s first trip abroad (two weeks in France).

Colchester Camping – 29th / 30th July

For once, we left it a bit late to book anything. We were busy removing stuff from our flat on the Thursday, and didn’t know whether we’d get everything finished or not.

Turns out we were okay, and spent Thursday night on the phone, trying to find a nice CL for us to stay in. Just about everything was fully booked. So we booked into Colchester Camping, in … errr … Colchester.

Got there about lunchtime, and were given a pitch close to the entrance, with hookup, and hardstanding with a nice bit of grass to the side. Opposite were some other MHers who just had hardstanding. Maybe they weren’t members of the Caravan Club? Maybe the CC insists its members have a bit of grass to sit out on.

We lunched into setup mode, and in about two minutes the kettle was on, the hookup was .. hooked up, awning out, chairs and table out. Smashing! Later, we watched a tugger setting up. It took him absolutely AGES to get the van level, get his water containers out and connected, get his gas connected. Tsk tsk.

Peaceful afternoon, spent reading and stuff like that. After tea, we ventured out to the local pub. It was okay, sold nice beer and stuff, but the ladies’ toilet was waterlogged, they set up a disco in the beer garden playing “modern stuff” (okay for me, not okay for Annie), but the time to go was when they put the barbecue on, and started to cook fat-soaked offal burgers. Even I, who has been known to eat some strange stuff from time to time, didn’t fancy sticking around, so we didn’t.

Couldn’t get much telly, because the campsite is in a big dip.

Despite being next to a fairly major road, (the road is just the other side of that Autotrail Apache in the right hand picture above) we got a good night’s sleep, and spent a leisurely morning, reading the paper and whotnot. Left about 11 o’clock, and drove to Dan and Sarah’s, where we saw their lovely new house in Feering for the first time, and had a really nice lunch. Thank you, D&S.

Trundled home mid afternoon.
